For More Cane Christmas Ornament Info Click On The Blue Links Below

Christmas customs are not homogenous all over the world, but among the most popular ones we can surely find exchanging of gifts, kissing under the mistletoe, decorating the Christmas tree and other indoor and outdoor Christmas decorations and Christmas ornaments. But while preparing your house for the holiday season you should not forget to pay attention to the basic idea of Christmas: spending quality time with your families and friends and thinking about the baby Jesus’ birth. Your soul must be prepared too for holidays!

All your Christmas decorations must have a magical spirit and must reflect your warm and tender feelings about this holy time of the year. You should search for new ideas every year so your Christmas ornaments will get the maximum appreciation, as many of your relatives and friends will visit you during this white season.

In order to create an intimate and warm atmosphere in your house, you can place colourful ribbons or bows on your curtains, chairs or door handles. You can add a touch of joy by using different colours instead of the usual green, red and white. But you can also choose a theme for your Christmas decorations, using only a colour or two. For a better effect, the tableware can follow the same pattern. The holiday garlands, the window candles and the lights on the front windows can also contribute to the charm of the decoration. You may be sure that your children will feel very enthusiastic about creating Christmas ornaments from coloured paper or other materials and this will stimulate their creativity.

The Christmas tree is perhaps the most important of all Christmas decorations. It can be real or made of plastic; it can be in miniature or tall. All that matters is what it stands for: a celebration of God and Jesus, a manifestation of joy and appreciation, a period when everyone tries to be a better person. The way one chooses Christmas ornaments is rather important for everyone because they can show the large variety of feelings related to this magic time. Children are the ones that dream most about the candy canes, stars, bells, toys, socks, little snowmen, Santa Clause hats hung in the Christmas tree. They dream more than adults and they probably even feel more during this period. So pay special attention to the star or the fairy on the top of the tree: it will be noticed (by everyone, not just your children) for sure! And do not forget to buy electric flashing lights, white or coloured, to make your tree look more animated!

Your children and the carol singers will love some suitable for eating Christmas ornaments. Chocolate coins or homemade cookies with a coloured, silver or gold wrapping will look delicious while sparkling in the tree and will tempt the guests of all ages! The same effect will be produced by other important Christmas ornaments - of the table - : the Christmas cakes, which you can cook and even decorate according to your imagination.

You should also think about some interesting and elegant Christmas decorations for your living room table: white glittery pinecones, little snowmen, white doves, white or coloured berries and flowers, silver bells, angels and anything that makes you feel happy. Everything can be sprayed with snow, giving only a little light dusting or making it look like a heavy snowfall, upon your personal taste.

Speaking about outdoor Christmas decorations, you might even enjoy a banner to tell everybody how happy you are about the holiday season, to wish them ‘Merry Christmas!’ or to make sure that Santa will not pass by your house. For many families it is very important to decorate their homes with strings of lights, which can have many shapes and sizes and seem to be the most popular outdoor Christmas ornaments. There are also dangling lights which resemble Santa Claus, snowmen, angels or icicles. There’s no limit to how you can show your joy regarding the Christmas time.

In the past, all that people used was a wreath of holly on the door, but now we can see Santa climbing up the roofs, fake snow on all the windows or even a pre-made figure or statue with lighting capabilities. (This can take the shape of Santa, a cartoon character, a religious figure or can even represent a biblical scene.) Many people manufacture their own decorations instead of buying them or look for exclusive products to make their house the most admired in the neighbourhood. For them as well as for us, the spirit of Christmas has to light everyone’s hearts and they do the best they can to bring a smile on their neighbour’s faces.

Christmas is about renewing memories, telling stories, singing carols, sharing gifts and all the Christmas ornaments should be chosen with enthusiasm and joy.

The entire world waits with excitement for the Christmas season since it is the sign that this year is almost over and the New Year is just around the corner. A lot of people over the world start celebrating the festive season from the first day of December, or even earlier if you go be the displays in the department stores.

The Christmas cake, the Christmas tree, the Christmas decorations and most importantly, Santa Claus, are some of the things we are instantly reminded of every time we think of Christmas. Not only those, wreaths and stars are also inseparable from Christmas.

Everyone from small children to old people start getting busy planning for Christmas some time before the big day It does not have to be a lavish celebration for everyone. It is a time to be together with the family and simple cozy celebrations are also nice, with people having a simple Christmas tree and decorating it with some ornaments and a star.

Christmas decorations can be done both indoors and outdoors or both together. Most people use the Santa Christmas scene, snowmen and white snow as themes to brighten up their indoors decorations, all centered around the tree.

You can choose a Christmas tree according to your budget since there is one to suit everyone's pocket. They are generally decorated with swirls, ornaments, garlands, bells, stars and pine cones. To make it seem more like a 'real' Christmas tree, fake snowflakes are often sprinkled on the tree. If you cannot get these fake snowflakes, you can also use cotton swabs in their place. However, do not use too many accessories in the Christmas tree if you display it in a small room.

The Christmas garland can be fixed to the tree using polyester or velvet Christmas bows. This makes the garland look neat and pretty wherever it is attached. Stars traditionally symbolize Christ's birth and are available in a variety of sizes and colors. A lot of different kinds of Christmas wreaths are also available, including giant wreaths to go on the front door.

There are also animated decorations available in the markets which are appreciated by everyone, especially kids. You could get yourself a waving Santa, horse and carriage, riverboats, twinkling stars, or even a collectible animated ornament.

Good indoor lighting can make all the decorations look even better. Thus, invest in some good lights to brighten the festivities. Get yourself light strings, light bulbs, LEDs, mini lights and other popular Christmas lights to make your home look even nicer.

You could also try being innovative with the Christmas tree by getting a wrought iron tree this year. They are classy and come in various sizes, shapes and colors, which means you can get one to match your decor and other Christmas decorations. These trees are available in colors other than black and dark gray. You can also get wrought iron stocking hooks and wrought iron stocking holders, which also come in different sizes and shapes. Wrought iron can also be used to decorate the hooks and holders such as with traditional Christmas symbols and characters such as a snowman, a candy cane, a Santa Claus, reindeer, stars, snowflakes, wreaths, gingerbread men, nativity scenes, an angel, as well as the Christmas tree.

For many of us, Christmas is the most celebrated and cherished time of the year. We dream about it months before the 25th of December and we try to anticipate the way we’ll spend this magic period. In order to make the most of it, we have to choose the best Christmas decorations (the most glamorous and eye catching Christmas ornaments), the most attractive Christmas tree and to be surrounded by our family and friends.

We all seem to be perfectionists when it comes to Christmas decorations. It’s understandable, since we wait for an entire year to celebrate the birth of Jesus and to enjoy the reunion of our family. But the best herald of this holy time of the year remains the Christmas tree. It’s around it where we share stories and laugh and open Santa’s presents.

The origins of the Christmas tree are not known for sure, but they date since ancient times and are connected to religious rituals. The practice of adorning it seems to have started during the 1500s, when an evergreen was associated with the Mother of Jesus and was decorated with roses as Christmas ornaments. A period when the Christmas decorations were represented only by nuts, pretzels, raisins and cookies followed. Then the glass balls appeared and gradually they were replaced by today’s plastic tree ornaments, like bells, toys, stars, candy canes, socks, Santa Claus hats and little snowmen.

The first thing to have in mind when searching for a Christmas tree is whether you prefer a real or a fake one. There are some advantages and disadvantages: the real one is very beautiful and smells like winter and forest, but it can make a mess of needles on your floor if it isn’t a special type of fir (evergreen) or if it wasn’t treated with special chemicals; the fake one will look realistic enough when we arrange its branches, but it will not fool anyone.

The finishing note for the tree is represented by the Christmas ornaments. No matter what you choose, how you decide to adorn it, your tree should say something about you and your family. You may choose a religious theme or a modern one. You may choose only white, red, silver, gold or other fancy colourful Christmas decorations. You don’t even have to spend a lot of money to have beautiful and unique Christmas ornaments for the Christmas tree. You can make a lot of them together with your family, in order to give your celebration a personal touch. Children especially are very enthusiastic about manufacturing all kinds of Christmas ornaments by themselves, using materials like white or coloured paper. Snowflakes are one of the simplest Christmas decorations to be made. This will develop their imagination and their skills and you will have less work to do by yourself.

The Christmas ornaments in chief position may be represented by the stars or the fairies on the top of the tree. We have many options for that too, since the specialised stores provide us with endless ideas. Other Christmas decorations that should not be forgotten are the lights. Originally people used candles for this purpose, but they’ve proven to be dangerous (a source for unwanted accidets), so now everybody buys electric lights which flash and even play Christmas carols. We certainly don’t want any Christmas ornaments to fall down from the tree, so it would be recommended to fasten them carefully.

No matter which Christmas story pleases us, about Jesus or about Santa, about angels or about reindeers, we should not forget to tell it to our children during Christmas Eve. This will create a magic atmosphere and, together with the Christmas decorations so carefully chosen, will make us all feel the peace of Christmas in our souls.

About the Author:

Nowadays we have a lot of choices for adorning our houses and our Christmas tree, but no matter what Christmas decorations and Christmas ornaments we use, we are not allowed to forget that Christmas is about joy, gifts, family reunions, friends and maybe about counting the blessings in our lives. After all, Jesus was born this day for our resurrection.

I know it's summer but has anyone ever seen a Snowman Christmas tree topper?

No but I made my own with a Ken doll and I call it Kenny Angel.

For More Snowman Christmas Info Click On The Blue Links Below

This project used snowman and snowflake gel clings, and can be displayed alone or grouped together in 3’s using other glass vases of various heights. Showcase your beautiful Christmas vase or vases on a fireplace mantel, bookcase, or coffee table, or perhaps on a dining room table as a centerpiece.

Begin by adhering snowman and snow flake gel clings to the outside of your glass vase. Be sure to space the gel clings evenly around the vase. Next, begin layering the inside of the vase starting with snow flurries, then use bright white blanket snow towards the top, leaving 3 inches of un-layered space .

Supplies:

Tall glass vase (if you don’t already have one, thrift stores sell all different sizes and shapes for just pennies.

1 Package of Gel Decorations, AKA “Gel Clings” - Blue snowman and blue snowflakes. If using a few vases, I would recommend doing one vase all in snowmen and the other vases in snow flakes for more visual interest.

1 Package of blanket Snow, bright white

1 Package of Snow Flurries (not to be confused with snow flakes, which are bigger and look more like shredded paper. Snow flurries have more of a grainy appearance.)

Please note that gel decorations are removable and reusable. Do not expose to high heat or direct sunlight on hot days, sticker can melt. You have finished. When the holidays are over, you can keep your Christmas decorating project intact by stuffing a wad of newspaper in to the top of the vase, placing a small paper or plastic bag over the top and rubbing banding it to keep all contents in place. Then, just pack it away carefully for the next year.

I am trying to add a picture to a glass ornament. I want the picture to look smooth.
I need ideas (if anyone has any) on how to accomplish this.
I tried decoupage but the paper bunches up and looks a mess.
Any help is greatly appreciated.........
Happy Holidays!!!
I would like to have the picture on the outside ...I know you can buy them but I really wanted to try making it myself..

I just saw a clear glass ornament that had a colored picture inside that was printed on a transparency at Kinkos. She cut the picture out in the shape of a circle, rolled it up in a tight tube and inserted it into the hole, then it quickly unrolled by itself when inside. She then painted a snowflake or two and some colored dots on the outside of the ball. It looked very good. I can't find the picture now, but there are endless possibilities with this idea! Someone else said that you could print it on your own color printer too.

The addition of the Topper on the Christmas Tree is like putting icing on a cake. They add just the right finishing touch and enable you to step back, view your work, take a deep breath, sigh and know your job is done for this season. Christmas Tree Toppers come in all sizes, types and shapes from stars of all kinds to angels to gorgeous ribbon creations. In this article I want to focus on Angel Tree Toppers and Santa Tree Toppers.

Fiber Optic Angel Tree Toppers.

Fiber Optic Angels are very beautiful. Their wings come in several shapes and styles. Some Angel wings are a solid material that looks like bamboo and has the fiber optic filaments running through. There are others where the wings are an iridescent Mylar material nestled among fiber optic filaments. Then there are what I believe to be the most beautiful. These have clusters of many, many fiber optic filaments that are used to create a shape or design for the wings and then more loose fiber optic filaments are sprayed across the front of the wings. This creates the most beautiful affects from the fiber optics. These Angels have an adapter that powers the fiber optics. Sometimes the adapter can be a little heavy but can usually be taped to the center pole or trunk of the tree.

Lighted Angel Toppers.

This type of Angel Topper usually carries a mini light candle in one or both of her hands and has more mini lights around the bottom of the base under her gown. These mini lights are the same type of light used to light your Christmas tree. Usually the manufacturer will put a cover, like an acrylic star, over the top of the mini light in each of the Angels hands. This type of Angel Topper has no adapter and will easily plug into the top section of any Christmas tree. There are also Small Lighted Angel Toppers that have a pigtail light cord that allows you to remove a mini tree light bulb from the socket in your Christmas tree and replace it with the pigtail connection. Then every time you turn your Christmas tree lights on the Angel will light up as well. These types of Angels usually only have one mini light that they hold in their hands in front of them.

Animated Angel Toppers.

Animated Angels are very beautiful and can be Fiber Optic with animation, lighted and animated or animated with no lights at all. The animation includes very soft, gentle movements. Basically the wings move forward and back. The arms open and close and the head and torso move in a gentle circle to either the left or right. Sometimes the head will bow down a bit as the Angel moves forward. I have noticed a noise with these Angels. The Animated Angels with Fiber Optic wings will hum and bit and the Angels with feather wings may click as the wings go forward or back. One thing I have learned is never to pick one up by the head, arms or wings and especially not when the Angel is plugged in.

Angel Toppers.

Most Angel Toppers are exquisitely dressed. The fabrics are very gorgeous. They are made from polyester fabrics but have the look and feel of silk or damask and brocade. They will usually have porcelain heads and hands. The difference will come in the hair. Up to now Angel Toppers heads have been completely porcelain, including the hair. Now there are very exquisitely beautiful Angel Toppers with curly doll hair. I have also noticed that the color of the Angels hair is getting a little darker every year. They are not always blonde anymore.

Santa Toppers.

There is nothing like a Santa Christmas Tree Topper. These can range in size from 12 to 20 inches and taller. There are Traditional Santa style Toppers and there are Father Christmas style Toppers. Some have fiber optic filaments in their beards or in the greenery they may be holding. Others can have lights around the base illuminating their robes or they can come completely unlit. All of them will have a long white beard and mustache and will usually carry a pack of toys or gifts. As with the Angels the fabrics used for Santa and Father Christmas Toppers are absolutely gorgeous. I especially like the poly damask coats and the poly dupioni robes.

History of the Christmas Stocking:

The tradition of the Christmas stocking seems to have originated in around the third century and involves the Bishop of Myra who became known as Saint Nicholas. The legend goes that there was a righteous and honorable man whose wife had died, leaving him to care for their three daughters. The tradition in that country at the time was that a daughter had to have a dowry to be able to get married, as this man was poor he felt bad thinking his daughters would never be able to marry. One day this information came to the attention of Nicholas the Bishop of Myra, so late one night he went to the man's cottage. Looking in the window he saw that the daughters had washed cloths and hung them around the fireplace to dry, noticing their stockings hanging with the rest of their clothes he took out three small bags of gold and carefully tossed them through the open window into the stockings. The next morning as the daughters were gathering their clothes they found the bags of gold, now they had money for a dowry! Of course each girl married well and lived happily ever after. As this legend grew more people began to leave stockings or small sacks hanging around the fire place in hopes that Saint Nicholas would leave them something as well.

A little further north in Holland, children used to set out their wooden clogs with straw in them, Father Christmas would feed the straw to his reindeer and leave a treat or small gift in the clog for the child. Italian children had a similar tradition of leaving their shoes out by the door so that Papa Noel would leave a little treat or something in them. In France the children left their shoes indoors by the fireplace and would then find treats or small gifts in them. In Puerto Rico the children would use small boxes, where they would put flowers and other greenery to be left for the three Wise Men or the three Kings.

Christmas Stockings in America:

As with any legend there are several variations. But the most likely way that hanging stockings became an American tradition was from all the different immigrants' coming to America and bringing their own traditions with them and then being in close proximity to each other the traditions began to merge and alter into what we have today. Another person that helped the tradition of hanging stockings by the fireplace was Clement Moore and his most famous of poems A Visit from St. Nicholas, which today is called The Night before Christmas. And as anyone who has read the poem would know, it says, the stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. So a combination of different traditions and legends and famous poets gave birth to an American tradition. And today the Christmas stocking is an essential part in the celebration of Christmas in America. Although the practice of using everyday wearable socks has given way to specialty Christmas stockings. Today there is a wide selection of Christmas stockings for everyone and even a selection for pets.

I am looking for a website which can provide some information about Christmas ornament.?

Actually, I want to buy the Christmas ornaments this year.I want to purchase it online. Currently am busy with my work, no time to go to a shop and purchase.
Also, I heard that Christmas ornaments do have a history. Where can I get such information in the internet?

Check out http://www.theholidayspot.com/christmas/christmas_ornaments.htm. This site has all that you are looking for. I was mightily impressed by the history of the Christmas ornaments that they have provided. The article was very simple and informative. They have also provided links to buy Christmas ornaments and you will find plenty of ornaments that you can purchase and even personalize and send to your friends, family and relatives. I personally liked the glass ones though.

For More Christmas Ornament Info Click On The Blue Links Below

Christmas Ornament Storage Ideas.

Some people think that all the Christmas Ornament Storage advice that has been printed and the many products produced are for others, who collect expensive, delicate or antique Christmas Ornaments. That is just not true. I don't collect Ornaments but I do have several that my children have made in school over the years. Like the paper Snowmen decorated in cotton balls, a cut out Santa and sleigh covered in glitter and the many snowflakes and angels decorated with lace and other fabric trims. Like many of you, these are my treasures. I look forward to the time when I can turn them over to my children so they can display them for their children.

These are some of the things I've come up with that have helped.

Ornaments made of construction paper and decorated with cotton balls and fabric trims I store separately. They are carefully wrapped in acid free paper and then stored in an empty filing drawer where nothing can rest on top to smash the cotton balls and other decorations.

I also have some glass balls and a few other traditional type ornaments I've picked up along the way. When I'm buying an ornament I always ask if they can put it in a box, then I keep the box. This is especially good for glass balls. It is so much easier to store them back in the box than to try to find one and risk breaking some because you had to stack them on top of each other to fit them all in.

Use Acid Free Tissue Paper to wrap single glass balls, crystal and other types of ornaments. The Acid Free Tissue keeps the paint from fading. Do not use newspaper the ink can rub off onto your ornaments.

Put all your ornaments in a sturdy, Acid Free Ornament Storage box. Put Acid Free Tissue Paper, crumpled up, in the bottom of the Ornament Storage box and on the top before you close the box. This will keep the ornaments from being jostled too much when you move the box.

Put some type of label on the box, that way you can see at a glance what is inside each box.

It is not a good idea to store glass ornaments with the ornament hangers still attached. The hanger could scratch the paint off the ornament.

You can use the small plastic or paper cups to store your Ornament Hangers.

Store your boxes in the most climate controlled area of your home. This probably will not be your attic or garage. Most of our nicest ornaments cannot take the changes in temperature and humidity.

Why Acid Free Paper?

Acid Free Paper is best for delicate antique glass ornaments. The ones handed down to you from Grandma or that you have been collecting for years. Regular papers can cause the paint to fade. It has even been found that if you wrap your ornaments in Acid Free paper and then store them in regular cardboard the acid in the cardboard can penetrate the acid free paper and cause the paint to fade.

There are many products on the market today for preserving our family records, photos, handmade Christmas Ornaments and other treasured items for years, possibly even decades.

One of the largest issues for the majority is to get xmas ideas for the whole christmas celebration time.

christmas ideas don't have to be stressful and complicated. The most important thing is to develop a plan. To know what you want to do, then discover how to do it the most efficiently.

Careful planning can save you a lot of money and time.

christmas ideas
First, decide if you would like to save time and buy almost all of your decorations, or you have sufficient time, patience and talents to make your own xmas decorations.

Also think about if you're going to embellish inside of your house only or also outside - the exterior of you home.

Plan your time and money according to your call and your christmas decorating concepts can bring you lots of fun and enjoyment.

*Christmas ideas for Your Cooking and Baking:*

Get your xmas meals concepts early. Ask your friends and family, look around the internet, flick thru mags. Then when you decide on your christmas menu, make a plan when and what to buy, and when will be the perfect time to cook, and stick to it.

lots of the christmas foods - especially the baked ones, can be done well up front the Xmas day.

do not forget to involve your children - many of them will be delighted to help to bake or decorate Christmas cookies.

*Christmas Ideas for Your Tree:*

First decide if you need an artificial, cut or potted-live xmas tree.

synthetic tree does not make a mess, and can be re-used year by year, however it doesn't smell and 'feel' so nice like the real tree. And nowadays you can even buy pre-lit xmas tree which saves you a lot of headache.

Cut trees are probably the hottest. They smell and feel nice and make the memories of christmas unforgettable. However they do tend make a mess finally as they dry up.

There are plenty of places you should buy them online or in your neighborhood. You can even go to xmas tree farm and cut your own. Remember the First Aid kit though, if you have not been brought out in the country! ;- )

the third kind are'live' trees = trees which are in containers. Those are the trees you can plant into your garden or front porch in the spring as to be the environmentally responsible person.

*Christmas concepts for Gifts:*

these are some tips to simplify xmas gifts ideas for you :

First make a list all people you want to give a gift, for example your spouse, children, parents, siblings, friends, co-workers and the like so you have a concept how many gifts you will need. Then consider the acceptable christmas gifts.

The best christmas present ideas are customarily the stuff which normally an individual will never buy for himself/herself, but you know they want to have it.

it's critical that you choose gift idea that's right for the person you are purchasing for. Think about their hobbies, interests, experience and the lifestyle .
Think about their tastes, selections and preferences.

if you do not wish to get anything personal, think about their home and what don't have or would fit into their home nicely.

try to add a personalized touch to all your gifts, at least for your folks and closest friends. Everybody think they are special, so a personalised christmas gift for a Special person will always be recollected.

do not forget the xmas gift does not have to be only a wrapped physical item, it could also be a mag subscription, ticket to their favourite band or game, or a gift voucher, or anything which they want to get, but normally would not buy for themselves.

*Free christmas concepts For xmas Activities:*

Other christmas concepts include participating in the numerous free activities that occur during xmas. Check your local paperspapers, community boards for free xmas concerts, or xmas plays, or any other xmas events you can join in.

When does Disney start putting up their xmas decorations, specifically the gingerbread house in the grand flor

The gingerbread house inside the Grand Floridian starts to be assembled when?
And when are most christmas decorations up all throughout the Disney World parks?
I'm going November 18th through Novemeber 24th.
will the gingerbread house and other decor be up?
All you people that say after thanksgiving...
Then WHY does Mickey's Christmas party start November 13th?
hmmm
answer me that.

You are going at the perfect time. All the decorations will be up. I went at that time last November. It was gorgeous. The gingerbread house is actually a little store where you can buy delicious cookies, treats, etc. There is so much lights in Mgm that it took us an hour to go through and take pictures. There are many huge, decorated Christmas trees up, and wreaths, etc.

Many people feel that Xmas has become over-commercialised and that we’ve lost sight of the things that make it special, such as spending time with friends, family and loved ones, celebrating, resting and showing compassion and generosity.

In the midst of all the pressure and stress of Xmas it can be difficult for us to remember the things that really matter to us at Xmas and the steps we can take to build more of them into the festive period. We simply need to remember that we are in control of our lives and can create the Xmases we want – we don’t have to endure the commercialised and rushed version of Xmas that seems to be the modern norm!

Below are some brief ideas on how we can get the Xmas we really want. For more ideas and tips, visit www.lifesquared.org.uk and download Xmas² - our FREE guide to having a happier, wiser and more meaningful Xmas.

One important aspect of Xmas for many of us is spending time with other people, and there are many things we can do to get the most out of this, including inviting neighbours round for a drink, watching less TV and showing hospitality to friends who don’t have anything arranged for Xmas. We can also give ourselves the chance to have a more restful Xmas by prioritising our time, only doing essential Xmas tasks and asking other people to help us with those tasks we have to do.

Showing generosity is also important to us at Xmas - but you don't need to buy people lots of stuff to do this! For example, we could be generous in the amount of time, effort, attention, affection or many other things we could give them. This could involve visiting someone, making a phone call, helping out with the chores, making gifts or many other things.

Xmas is traditionally a time when people are encouraged to think and act in a compassionate way. It is an ideal time to start carrying this thinking and behaviour into your day-to-day life on an ongoing basis. This can cover a range of behaviours – from showing forgiveness to helping someone in need. Acts of compassion and forgiveness can take bravery, but perhaps there could be opportunities for you to do them in your life – even in situations you previously thought impossible?

It may involve going out of your way to do an unselfish act for someone else, to admit a share of the blame for an argument (even when you feel you were right) or putting yourself in an awkward position for a moment in order to raise a sensitive issue. Challenge yourself to find the courage to do it where, in your heart of hearts, you think it is needed.

Many of these steps to simplify and take control of our Xmases support another important point – the need to live sustainably. Xmas can be a time of enormous waste and environmental impact, and this is often driven by our thirst for more material goods and our supply systems importing food, gifts and other goods from around the world. By seeking a more meaningful and relaxed Xmas, we may find ourselves consuming less and living more sustainably – for example, by making presents, decorations and some Xmas food rather than buying imported products that have high ‘Xmas miles’.

At Life² (www.lifesquared.org.uk), we’ve developed a guide on how to have a happy, wise and meaningful Xmas, called Xmas². The booklet is packed with ideas and practical tips on how you can have a truly memorable festive experience - one with less consumerism and waste, and with more of the things that make festive celebrations great, including people, fun, relaxation, generosity, compassion and the opportunity to reflect. This isn’t about restoring more religious meaning to Xmas – it’s about remembering what’s important, in both Xmas and life generally.

It is available as a download from www.lifesquared.org.uk for free until Xmas. We hope it helps you to have a fabulous festive period!
